Thai Express @ West Coast Plaza

10 MAY 2009

Initially, we thought of having a Mother’s Day meal with some of our relatives, but alas, it did not happen… So, at the last minute, Bro managed to make a reservation at Thai Express in West Coast Plaza…

Wow! There was still a line leading into Thai Express when we reached, and the place was very crowded… even at 8:00pm! Thank goodness for the reservation! Thai Express really befits the name… There was an urgency in the steps of the waiters & waitresses… Everyone seems to be moving in double quick time!

As we looked through the menu, I realised that Thai Express runs a shorter “celebration menu” on special occasion… To me, it was still rather extensive with some decent selections… We logged in our orders, which actually took a while as we try to figure out some of the dishes… The overall noise level didn’t help too as we had to get the poor waitress to repeat herself several times… After our orders were confirmed, the food starts arriving at double quick time… Thank goodness for that too as we were getting hungry!

Seafood Tom Yum Soup

Seafood Tom Yum Soup

The Seafood Tom Yum Soup ($7.90)… Decent, but nothing spectacular about it…

Thai Fried Squid

Thai Fried Squid

Thai Fried Squid ($8.90)… Actually quite a nice dish, specially with the sweeten sauce.

Prawn Toast

The Prawn Toast ($7.90) was excellent!

Mixed Vegetables & Mushrooms

Mixed Vegetables & Mushrooms

Mixed Vegetables and Mushrooms ($8.90) was average at best… definitely not worth the price tag…

Seafood Thai Kway Teow

Seafood Thai Kway Teow

The Seafood Thai Kway Teow ($10.90) was probably the best out of the lot we ordered, but kind of pricy for the size served…

Basil Chicken Rice

Basil Chicken Rice

The Basil Chicken on rice ($10.90) was rather spiced up… but it was decent.

Curry Soft Shell Crab

Curry Soft Shell Crab

The Curry of the Soft Shell Crab ($11.90) was pretty good… However, I didn’t quite like the Soft Shell Crab… I just ain’t a crabby person…

Pineapple Rice

Pineapple Rice

Nothing much can be said about the Pineapple Rice ($10.90) and the Chendol ($6.90; no pictures taken) by our standards as they were totally forgettable…

To me, there were more misses than hits… but I have to say it was still relatively acceptable from the price-point ($100.85 for 6 people)… However, I’m not sure if it is a place I will come back to for Thai food of such standards as I know I can get much better Thai food in Australia for a fraction more of what we paid… I have a feeling we don’t have to look too hard to get better Thai Food at similar price in Singapore!

My Final Rating: 6/10

Address:
154 West Coast Road, #01-02 West Coast Plaza, Singapore
