Perla’s… Second Visit for Tiramisu and a delightful Berry Tart

16 JAN 2009

I have been itching for their Tiramisu… and with this as my only reason, I find myself going back to Perla’s just 3 days after my initial visit. Wifey came along this time…

I got 2x Tiramisu ($8.80 ea) and wifey decided on a pretty looking custard tart, a 5″ Crostata Ai Frutti Di Bosco ($10.80) and all that cost $21.60… Pricey… but is it worth it?

Tiramisu from Perla Pasticceria

Tiramisu(Rating: 6.25/10) – Before today, I came across a few reviews and comments about the Tiramisu from this Pasticceria. Some people liked it, some people don’t. After my experience with this Tiramisu, the conclusion is: It’s all right, but not spectacular. With a generous coating of choc-powder, the soft mascarpone cream is indeed very smooth. The sponge finger was all right by me. What I found lacking was the very weak taste of liquor if any at all! I prefer my Tiramisu strongly alcoholic!

5" Crostata Ai Frutti Di Bosco

5" Crostata Ai Frutti Di Bosco

Crostata Ai Frutti Di Bosco (Rating: 8.25/10) – The custard filled tart is topped with both blackberries and raspberries. Frankly, I was never a fan of custard tart, but I was totally converted by this one! It is seriously good. It is very rare for me to find myself going for more of the custard! Generally, the overall sweetness level was perfect for me. The berries were excellent with no hint of sourness. What would’ve made this tart perfect for me was if the biscuit crust was of the crispier type. But I think that’s down to personal preference. Wifey loved this tart as it is. I think this is a must try for berries lovers!

This trip down, we were offered more samples (pineapple tarts!). I think I will be coming down AGAIN to get some for Chinese New Year!!
