178 Lor Mee @ Tiong Bahru Food Center

‘178′ Lor Mee (#02-58)

A long queue for '178' Lor Mee

After discovering Tiong Bahru Food Center (last week), we walked around to look at some of the stalls operating there. One of the stall selling Lor Mee had this long queue… and on a Sunday afternoon when all the other stalls seemed relatively quiet!! Impressive I thought. They must be selling some pretty nice Lor Mee, and I vowed to return!

Fast Forward >> Today (13 DEC 2008), we returned and ordered a $3.00 worth of Lor Mee. Interestingly, there were not much of a queue… Perhaps it is quieter during dinner time.

Without a queue, I got my order of Lor Mee in a flash.  I did not forget to load up a big spoonful worth of chopped garlic and chilli as these goes really well with Lor Mee…

Diving into the Lor Mee, their thick gooey sauce appeared to be a little to thick (initially). I think if I scoop a handful of it then and fling it against the wall, it will take some time for the thick sauce to slideeeeeeeeeeeeee down! However, half way through the Lor Mee, the sauce became much less viscous.

Apparently, the fried fish fritters where shark meat! (Kind of reminded me of the Fish fritters I used to eat in New Zealand so many years ago). There were also plenty of crunchy and crispy bits and pieces swimming in the thick sauce. Well… overall, I liked it, but Wifey was put off by the initial extra gooey sauce. However, it does not beat my all time favourite Lor Mee from Amoy Street Food Centre!
