Laurent Bernard Chocolatier – Dessert @ Robertson Quay
26 OCT 2008
Aimlessly strolling around Robertson Quay after the excellent Ramen lunch, brought us to Laurent’s Cafe & Chocolate Bar. Wifey was like “Hmmm… Their box… seems sooooooooo familiar…” “Tiffany” I cut in… Although set in a different shade of blue, rather more toward greenish-blue colour, both the colour intensity of Laurent’s and Tiffany’s boxes give a sense of similarity between the two.
After looking at what’s available on their menu, and after much deliberation (because everything was so appealing yet pricy), we went for their Chocolate Souffle ($16.50). Each of their souffle is freshly baked on order, and this will take 20-30 minutes. To that, Wifey ordered her favourite Earl Grey Tea ($7.00) and I ordered an Iced Latte ($7.00). Thinking back, I should’ve gone for something chocolate since it was a ‘chocolate place’.
While waiting for our orders, we sat back and enjoyed the cool air-con. Nicely deco’ed, Laurent has a fresh posh look to it. Like most of the eateris at Robertson Quay, there’s an alfresco area. It’s also a great place for people watching…
Anyway, soon after, the Earl Grey Tea and the Iced Latte came… Sadly, nothing much can be said about their Tea. Wifey loves ultra super strong tea, and she thought that the Earl Grey tea here was way too weak. I took a sip and found that the initial classical flowery fragrance of the Earl Grey tea was there… but it dissipated rather quickly. Alas, nothing much can be said about their Iced Latte too. It was average AT BEST. Hiaz… I should’ve tried one their Chocolate…
As we anticipate the arrival of OUR Chocolate Souffle, a pleasantly distinct smell of the freshly baked Souffle drifted out from the oven. Ooooolalaaa… and soon, it was served. Although there were a choice of chocolate or vanilla sauce on the menu, we were given the chocolate sauce without being given any choice. So, the Chocolate Souffle was served with a raspberry sherbet and chocolate sauce. Heavenly is the word. Crisp exterior, warm and fluff interior… Perfect combination with the chocolate sauce… and the raspberry sherbet adds to the dessert in a good way.
Alas, we find the place to be a tad too pricy, even for this slice of heaven. But I believe we would pop by again for their awesome souffle on a special occassion…
My Final Rating: 6.75/10

Great minds think alike or what? I was planning to go again this week. I love this souffle, always change the sorbet to chocolate sorbet though.
You should try the chocolate tart and the hot chocolate next time.
Btw, photos allowed meh?

Hahaha…. indeed…
Their chocolate tart did not quite appeal to me. I was more allured by one of their cakes – the Chocolate Truffle (I think).
Hmmm, well, I was literally ‘waving’ my DSLR camera around and no one stopped me… Well, I wasn’t exactly boldly doing it, but I wasn’t exactly sneaky about it either. I guess the manager wasn’t around to give a definitive “No Photo Please”! (like what I get from Freshly Baked by Le Bijoux)!

The chocolate tart is their signature dessert Gaz! A must try! Trust me on this, it’s much better than the cakes. No one is said to have visited Laurent’s without having the chocolate tart.
Best to go weekends coz they might have their “pleasure” cake. These 2 are the best desserts here.
I think they have changed the policy coz I heard photography is allowed at Wessex too.
